Daffodil Day 2026

There for the Tough Conversations

Cancer will affect every one of us throughout our lives.

It tears through families and leaves people feeling isolated and afraid, facing battle after battle with their own body.

This fight takes a significant toll not just on your physical health; it affects your independence and your relationships with the people you love. Eventually, it can feel as though you are relying on them more and more just to get through the day.

Daffodil Day is a time to remember the power of community, and the wide range of support on offer throughout your cancer treatment. From the healthcare providers offering care and hope, to the chaplains on the wards there to offer you support on your toughest days.

Hands Offering Support

As everything begins to feel unfamiliar, having a steady voice to carry you through can be invaluable.

One of our chaplains recently spoke with an individual facing a tough diagnosis that she knew would change her life. Terrified of the pain she was about to face, she didn't want to burden her family with her illness, and wasn't sure where to turn.

But a simple conversation with one of our team helped to provide her with some much-needed support. She knew talking wouldn't necessarily fix everything, but it gave her an outlet to share her worries, and reduced the anxiety she was feeling about her upcoming treatment.

They spoke about her concerns in troubling her children with her cancer diagnosis, and the burden she already felt she was becoming to them. Our chaplain reminded her of the love her family had for her, and the importance of keeping the people you care about close by during times of difficulty.

Together, they reflected on the power of community, and of a simple conversation to help bring things back into perspective.

Our chaplains are there to offer a safe space for you to share your worries, and to ease the load you feel you may be carrying.

Talking may not change your situation, but a conversation with a chaplain can help to show you that you are not facing things alone. Our team are there to support you without judgement, to meet you where you need to be met, and to provide a safe space for you to simply talk.

This Daffodil Day is taking place on 28th August. We wish to recognise the incredible bravery required by those individuals battling with cancer. They get up every day and choose to live, for themselves and for their loved ones.

PATIENT  VOICES

“I deeply appreciated the efforts of the visit of the chaplain to witness a document before my risky operation. I’ve survived, and while I’m not religious, I have immense respect and gratitude for the chaplaincy’s compassion and empathy. We all have our own ways of trying to make sense of the universe and life, and any approach that leads to serving others has my respect.”
