Organised by hospital chaplaincy teams and volunteers, these visits offered a reminder of the hope and compassion at the heart of the Christmas season.
Farewell to Chaplain Wyatt Butcher
May 2025
After more than two decades of dedicated service, Wyatt Butcher retired from his role as Mental Health Chaplain at Hillmorton Hospital on Friday, 30 May.
Over the past 22 years, Wyatt has become a beloved presence within the hospital, offering spiritual care, deep compassion, and steadfast support to patients, whānau, and staff.
Anzac Day at Hawke's Bay Hospital
April 2025
This year’s Anzac Day service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital held deep significance as it commemorated 110 years of the Royal New Zealand Nursing Corps (RNZNC). The ceremony paid tribute to the unwavering compassion and sacrifice of military nurses—past and present—whose connection to the hospital runs long and deep.
New Volunteer Chaplaincy Assistants Commissioned in Nelson

Several new Volunteer Chaplain's Assistants were recently commissioned as part of the Nelson Hospital Chaplaincy team. The service opened with a karakia and waiata from Nelson Hospital’s Director of Maori Health and was followed by a reflection by lead chaplain, Rev Stephen Gully.
