7-11 September 2026

Our hospital chaplains are here for you

For 2026, Hospital Chaplaincy Awareness Week is all about making the spiritual and pastoral care provided by hospital chaplains more visible to the people who need it.

Hospital Chaplaincy Aotearoa has existed for over 50 years across New Zealand to ensure patients, whānau, and staff receive the spiritual care and emotional support they need when it matters the most.

Today, we operate with over 90 chaplains and more than 200 volunteers across 39 hospitals to deliver our mission:

| To provide hospitals with Christian chaplains offering quality holistic spiritual and pastoral care for all.

Share your experience with us

One of the ways we are doing this is by hearing from people like you.

We would love to hear about your personal connections to our mission, and to learn about your experiences with hospital chaplains.

If a hospital chaplain has supported you or someone close to you, we would love to hear about your connection to our mission.

How can you get involved this Awareness Week?

This Hospital Chaplaincy Awareness Week, we're taking to hospitals directly to help raise awareness of the incredible work on offer by our chaplains.

We'll also be showcasing the impact our chaplains have via our social media channels.

What it's all about

Hospital chaplains are there to support patients, whānau and hospital staff throughout their hospital journey.

| Our whāinga is to show people all the different ways a hospital chaplain may be able to help you or offer you support, and to highlight just how easy it is to reach out to them when you feel you need to.

Whether it’s a patient who needs a listening ear whilst they figure out which course of treatment to take, a family member who is supporting someone they love, or a healthcare professional looking for support after having to perform a difficult procedure, chaplains are there to provide spiritual care and emotional support to those who need it most.

The work done by hospital chaplains really is invaluable.

Thank you to all the dedicated workers, volunteers, and supporters who help make this care possible.
