Father's Day is a time of celebration, where we recognise and give thanks to all those father figures in our lives that have shown strength, resilience, and love for us each day.

| To the dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and all the men that are there for the big and the small wins, we say thank you.

Fatherhood comes in all shapes and sizes, but the care and support we receive from the men in our lives is deeply important, however it is received.

In hospitals, Father's Day can look a little different.

Every day, hospital chaplains come face to face with fathers dealing with some of the toughest moments of their lives. They could be caring for sick family members, working through their own health challenges, or grieving great personal losses.

It is during these moments that we have the opportunity to give back to those who have supported us the most throughout our lives.

| And often, the most meaningful gift we can give is presence.

Recently, a chaplain provided a safe space for a single father awaiting surgery to express his fears and anxiety about being able to care for his young daughter he was raising on his own.

After offering comfort and support to the worried father, the chaplain expressed that fear is not a lack of faith but a representation of humanity. From these words, a burden lifted from the father's shoulders, and he expressed his gratitude to the chaplain.

| Simply having someone there to show him support and compassion in this difficult time made his journey easier to manage.

When hospital chaplains meet individuals and families facing challenging moments, they understand that simply having someone there can speak volumes. Someone to sit, listen to their worries, and offer simple words of compassion and care.

Hospital chaplains walk alongside families to help them find moments of joy and meaning, even in their most challenging seasons.

This Father's Day, as we honour the men who have supported and guided us, let us also remember those facing challenges, and recognise the profound difference that kindness, compassion, and simply being present can make.

Whether it is a moment of celebration or a season of difficulties and hardship, everyone deserves someone by their side
