Bring comfort and strength to patients in crisis.

Help ensure no one faces illness alone.

Your gift today will help people like Vera* find peace, courage, and connection—when they need it most.

When 82-year-old Vera was told that her illness was no longer treatable, her world quietly shifted. She had always prided herself on being independent—managing life on her own, working hard, and staying strong even through past hardship. So when her medical team gently recommended palliative care or a hospital bed at home, Vera felt shaken. It wasn’t just a change in her treatment—it felt like a loss of identity.

Behind her brave front, Vera was deeply worried. She was hesitant to accept support from anyone, and her family lived far away or were emotionally distant. “I keep calling out to God,” she confided to the hospital chaplain, “but I don’t get an answer.”

That’s when Chaplain Lizzie began visiting.

With gentle presence and no pressure, Lizzie offered Vera something simple—but vital: time, patience, and someone who would listen without judgement. Over a series of quiet conversations, Vera began to feel less alone. She was given the space to reflect, to make sense of what was happening, and to gradually come to terms with the uncertainty ahead.

One key step was helping Vera create an Advanced Care Plan—a process that allowed her to identify her values, preferences, and wishes for the future. For Vera, this wasn’t just paperwork; it was a turning point. It helped her feel in control again, even in a situation that had felt overwhelming.

And perhaps most important of all, Vera reconnected with her local community. With encouragement, she reached out to people she hadn’t spoken to in years—rekindling relationships and discovering, to her surprise, that she wasn’t forgotten. Support, friendship, and simple acts of kindness began to flow back into her life.

One day, Vera looked Lizzie straight in the eye and said:

“You didn't force me into anything, but helped me be brave enough to use my faith.”

That's what your generosity can make possible.
