Help them start the journey towards hope this Lent
Every day, patients arrive at our hospitals feeling lost, overwhelmed, and alone—struggling with addiction, mental health challenges, or the pain of broken relationships.
For many, life feels unbearable.
In this season of Lent, your church can help ensure that hope and transformation are possible by ensuring chaplains are able to walk alongside patients in their darkest moments.
Together, we can be part of the story of transformation—bringing light into places of despair, and reminding every person that they are seen, loved, and not alone.
Tim's Story
New Life Begins in the Darkest Places
When Tim* came to the hospital, he had reached rock bottom. Ashamed and overwhelmed, he believed his life no longer mattered. Beside him lay a pounamu, a symbol of a past victory over addiction—one he no longer felt worthy to wear.
Chaplain Bronwyn sat with Tim, prayed with him, and reminded him that he was more than his mistakes. Slowly, hope began to rise. Tim reconnected with his faith, shared his long-held pain, and put his pounamu back on—a quiet sign of new life.
When he left the hospital, Tim carried hope. Months later, he returned simply to say thank you:
“You saved my life that day.”
“A person in crisis only needs one person to start the journey with them.
Your support means we can be that person.”
— Chaplain Bronwyn

This Easter, Tim’s story reminds us that even in the darkest places, resurrection is possible.
