From Uncertainty to Joy

Mere, a grandmother to 16 children, travelled from Rarotonga to New Zealand for urgent surgery. She was filled with uncertainty about what the future held, and worried about seeing her family.

Mere's Story

Mere's biggest fear was that she might never see her grandchildren again. But just three weeks later, Mere is up and walking around the ward, her face radiant with joy after receiving the incredible news: she doesn’t have cancer. 

| "God has given me life again, and I'm so grateful," Mere said with a wide smile. "I'll see my children and grandchildren again."

During her time in the hospital, Mere found comfort and support from Chaplain Bronwyn Owens, who accompanied her throughout her journey.

Bronwyn reflects warmly on their time together:

“I always looked forward to visiting Mere, and I was overjoyed when she shared the incredible news that she didn’t have cancer, despite everyone’s fears to the contrary. Our first meeting was actually by chance—or so it seemed. Mere was walking down the corridor when her IV equipment alarm suddenly went off. I happened to be nearby, started walking alongside her, and we struck up a conversation. From that moment, a meaningful connection grew. It was such a privilege to spend time with her, praying and

offering support. I truly believe there are no accidents with God.” 

Giving Thanks

Mere expresses deep gratitude for Bronwyn's care, expressing that "she has a heart of gold, and we just seemed to click."

While she isn’t certain how much longer she’ll be in hospital, Mere looks forward to the day she can return home and reunite with her family. In the meantime, her regular visits with Bronwyn provide a source of positivity and reassurance, helping her stay hopeful and supported as she heals.
